Bonding

Bonding is a dental restorative procedure that helps correct the cosmetic flaws of your teeth such as cracks and chips, gaps between teeth, discoloration, and uneven surfaces. At Sugar Land Dental, we offer tooth bonding to help our patients attain pearly white teeth and a flawless smile.

What Is Tooth Bonding?

Tooth bonding is a simple procedure that involves applying a tooth-colored composite resin material to the surface of your teeth. This material will be applied to the damaged enamel and sculpted into shape to restore its appearance. The procedure may take less than an hour to complete, depending on the type of bonding needed.

What Are the Uses of Tooth Bonding?

Tooth bonding can help fix many cosmetic dental issues:
  • Close gaps between teeth
  • Fix broken, chipped, or cracked teeth
  • Cover discolored teeth
  • Fill in spaces between adjacent teeth
  • Smooth out uneven surfaces on teeth
  • Replace old fillings

How Is Tooth Bonding Performed?

Tooth bonding can be performed in one or two appointments. First, the dentist will examine your teeth to ensure whether you should get bonded or not. Then the dentist will clean your teeth to remove any plaque or tartar present on them. They will also determine whether you need additional treatment like root canals or crowns before starting the procedure.  The dentist applies a layer of composite resin to the damaged or uneven portion of your tooth. The resin is then hardened using a special light and polished until it matches the natural shade of your existing tooth enamel.

What Are the Advantages of Tooth Bonding?

Tooth bonding has many advantages:
  • It is quick and easy to perform.
  • It is affordable compared to other restorative procedures like crowns and veneers.
  • It is highly effective in fixing several cosmetic flaws in the appearance of your teeth.
  • It does not require any anesthesia.
  • It can be used on any tooth type.
  • The results are long-lasting.
  • It does not alter the structure of your tooth

How to Care for Your Bonded Teeth

It is important to care for your bonded teeth after they have been fixed, as they will be more susceptible to damage than usual. The dentist will advise you on how to care for your bonded teeth after the procedure. Your regular oral hygiene routine should include regular brushing and flossing daily. You do not need special care for the bonded area. However, avoid chewing ice or other hard foods as they can damage your bonded teeth over time.
