Dental Crowns in Sugar Land, TX

Dental Crowns in Sugar Land, TX

Dental crowns are tooth-shaped coverings secured over damaged teeth to provide stability and to cover the impaired portions. When a tooth gets damaged due to severe decay, crown restorations can strengthen the impaired tooth and restore it to its original look for a more attractive smile. At Sugar Land Dental, Sugar Land, TX, we offer customized dental crowns to restore your oral function and smile aesthetics.

How Can Dental Crowns Help?

The crowns can be used to:

  • Repair discolored or misshapen teeth
  • Restore broken or worn down teeth
  • Stabilize dental bridges to hold them securely in place
  • Cover a dental implant
  • Support a decayed tooth
  • Strengthen a tooth that has been treated for root canal infections

Crown Materials

There are various crown materials, including metal, porcelain, or metal fused to porcelain. At our office, we use the traditional porcelain crowns that have the translucent qualities of your natural teeth and blend in seamlessly in the mouth. No one will be able to make out the difference, allowing you to chew, talk, and smile without embarrassment.

Procedure for Dental Crowns

The process of preparing a dental crown will take two visits to our office.

The First Visit

On your first visit, we will take X-rays of your teeth to have a closer look at the roots of the affected teeth to determine if any other issues have to be addressed before proceeding with the crown placement. Depending on the tooth's condition that requires a crown, we will either build up the enamel structure or file it down to make room for the new restoration. Our innovative dental technology makes the entire process as comfortable and painless as possible.

After reshaping the tooth, we will take an impression of it to send over to a dental lab. This impression will be utilized to fabricate the permanent crown and color-matched with your existing teeth. This process may take about three to four weeks. Meanwhile, we will place a temporary crown until the permanent appliance is ready.

The Second Visit

We will remove the temporary crown during your next appointment and place the new appliance. The crown will be checked for correct fit and bite, and if required, the necessary adjustments will be made before bonding them using dental adhesives. They can last for several years with a proper oral hygiene regime.
